early life

saran was born on the southern reaches of the azim steppe, the first born child of atlan and davaa orl. her family’s tribe was small but their community was a close one, nomadic by nature and relocating often for food and trade. while too young to understand what was happening at the time, saran traveled with her tribe out of their home continent of othard following the fall of doma to garlean occupation.memories of the journey west are blurred, but the first sight of the fertile lands of coerthas in northern eorzea is something saran will never forget. it felt like a new beginning, her people setting down roots and building a life in this new and strange place.life in their new home wasn’t meant to last, however, as the people of nearby ishgard were suspicious of these new, scaled wanderers on their lands. fearing the xaela and their dragon-like appearance were connected to their centuries old enemy, the ishgardians wiped the orl tribe out, saran and her younger cousin sidurgu the only survivors.

Found Family

following the slaughter of her family, saran and sidurgu were found and later separated, saran taken to the nearby sharlayan colony, alone and confused. it was there that she encountered evangeline and remy goodswain, an older couple doing geologic surveys for the forum. they had no children of their own and took her in, at first temporarily, but they developed a quick bond with the intelligent child and decided that saran should remain with them when they returned to their home in old sharlayan.it was quickly decided that saran would receive a full and thorough education, an experience which allowed the young girl to flourish. she took to learning like a fish to water and was among the top of her classes within her first years of study. her innate aetheric talents were obvious and she was given special training to foster her abilities, gaining the attention of the studium as she approached adulthood.

Sharlayan

it was during this time that she first studied under louisoix leveilleur. he was impressed with her abilities and soon petitioned for her acceptance into the studium. there she focused her studies on aetheric amplification and manipulation. louisoix trained her himself in the sage arts and she had a natural aptitude toward healing and medicine.saran began a romance with long-time friend and fellow student of louisoix, thancred waters, during her early days at the studium. their romance was doomed from the start and quickly ended as thancred broke off the relationship. while heartbroken, saran found their friendship too important to abandon so they resolved to remain friends. it would be years before the pair would give their romance another chance.upon completion of her studies, saran was honored with the title of archon and became a member of the circle of knowing, a group founded by louisoix to intervene in the prophecy of the seventh umbral era. following louisoix's death and the formation of the scions of the seventh dawn, saran worked closely with her colleague y'shtola rhul in on the island of vylbrand, keeping a close eye on the primal threats to the city-state of limsa lominsa.
